Phil Johnson begins his lecture series with a synopsis of Spurgeon's formative years. Though he was not converted until his later teens, Spurgeon grew up in a strong Christian household. He loved and looked up to his grandfather who was a preacher and, from an early age, he had a tender conscience and was seeking how to be made right with God. The Holy Spirit was doing a slow but thorough work in his heart.
